Burnet Allandale Austin | One of the Coolest Neighborhoods in Austin to Live

In this article, we will explore one of the most family-friendly neighborhoods in Austin, Allandale. With over 100 people moving to Austin daily, it’s important to consider if Allandale is the right fit for you.

Located just north of downtown Austin, Allandale is bordered by MoPac on the west, Burnet Road on the east, Anderson Lane on the north, and 45th Street on the south. Burnet Road is the main hub of the neighborhood, featuring unique local shops, restaurants, and bars.

According to niche.com, Allandale is ranked as the third-best neighborhood for families in Austin and boasts the best schools out of the five neighborhoods in this series. Gullett and Highland Park are the top-rated elementary schools in the area, both earning a perfect 10 out of 10 rating on greatschools.org. Lamar Middle School is ranked six out of 10, and McAllen High School is ranked seven out of 10.

The average annual household income in Allandale is $121,031, while the median household income sits at $87,985 per year. Residents aged 25 to 44 earn $90,880, while those between 45 and 64 years old have a median wage of $101,503. In contrast, people younger than 25 and those older than 65 earn less, at $44,643 and $48,295, respectively. Most residents own their homes. The neighborhood features traditional slab range-style homes, with many undergoing renovations or being rebuilt entirely. (source: point2homes.com)

In April 2023, Allandale home prices were up 18.7% compared to last year, selling for a median price of $920K. On average, homes in Allandale sell after 56 days on the market compared to 19 days last year. There were 12 homes sold in April this year, down from 34 last year. (source: Redfin)

Allandale is home to many young professionals, with an average age of 37.  According to City-Data, 49.5% of the population aged 25 and older in Allandale have a bachelor’s degree or higher, and 23.4% have a graduate or professional degree.

The neighborhood’s main artery, Burnet Road, is bustling with life and features many local businesses. Some of the top spots include Yard Bar, Taco Flats, Torchy’s Tacos, Fonda San Miguel, Pinthouse Pizza, Pacha Organic Cafe, Uchiko, and Taco Deli.
